Adult Education February 2020
During our February Adult Education Programs this year, Father Edmund Hussey shall discuss four currently controversial issues in the Church today, their background and their importance for us.
These programs will be between the Masses on Sunday mornings and will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall.
- February 2, 2020: Feminism & the Ordination of Women
We all are quite aware that the day of women’s silent partnership in the Church is over. A new day has dawned for them and, therefore, for the entire Church. On the first Sunday of this series Father Edmund Hussey will open our Adult Education series with a discussion of this important but complicated issue.
- February 9, 2020: Clerical Celibacy and Married Priests
The current shortage of vocations to the priesthood has caused many persons to argue that the requirement of clerical celibacy excludes a great number of otherwise qualified men from the priesthood. On the second Sunday of this series Father Hussey will discuss the background and debate on this issue.
- February 16, 2020: The Sex Abuse Scandals
The most painful experience in the recent history of the Church has been the public disclosure of the sexual abuse of minors by some members of the clergy. On the third Sunday of this series Father Hussey will discuss this issue and our response to it.
- February 23, 2020: Why Belong to the Church
We are somewhat puzzled why a significant number of cradle Catholics no longer identify as Catholic. That is a complicated question to which there is no single answer. On the fourth and final Sunday of our February Adult Education Program Father Edmund Hussey will discuss this issue and our possible response to it.
