Redeamus ad cor ut inveniamus Eum.  Let us return to the heart so that we may find Him. ~ St. Augustine

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus appears essentially as a worship of, and a response to, the Person of Jesus Christ as viewed from the perspective of His divine and human love which is manifested through His sacred humanity and is symbolized by His wounded physical Heart.  Authentic devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is not merely an optional set of pious practices but is an essential element of the Christian way of life. Pope John XIII wrote in his spiritual autobiography, Journal of the Soul, these beautiful words:

Every time I hear anyone speak of the Sacred Heart of Jesus or of the Blessed Sacrament, I feel an indescribable joy….These are loving appeals from Jesus who wants me wholeheartedly there at the source of all goodness, his Sacred Heart, throbbing mysteriously behind the Eucharistic veils. The devotion to the heart of Jesus has grown in me all my life. I want to serve the Sacred Heart today and always.  It is to the heart of Jesus that I must look for a solution of all my troubles. I want the devotion to his Heart, concealed within the sacrament of love, to be the measure of all my spiritual progress. I am determined to give myself no peace until I can truly say I am absorbed into the Heart of Jesus.

Over the course of the next few months we will have public or liturgical opportunities to prepare ourselves to consecrate our Parish to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in a formal consecration.
